About

William Cody Bateman | Christian Men's Speaker“But whatever was an asset to me, I count as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God on the basis of faith.…” ~ Philippians 3:7-9

Introduction: I have had more individual accomplishments over my lifetime than most professional athletes, movie stars and corporate executives will ever know.  This is not some orchestrated delusional overstatement of self-importance on my part but rather, a stark and factual reality. As one multi-millionaire Floridian once exclaimed, “Either you have lived the three life lifetimes or you are one of the biggest blowhards I have ever met. And, I have met some real doozies in my lifetime!”

He’s right.

Before I give you my life’s highlights, I need to warn you that they truly are “dung” compared to my possession of eternal life through the finished work of Jesus Christ; and knowing the surpassing riches of His glory and His righteousness through childlike faith in Him alone:

  • received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior by faith… 40 years ago
  • father of four adult sons and 12 grandchildren
  • adoptive father and mentor to 32 young men and women
  • husband and father to a blended family of 10
  • hiked and bicycled more than 10,000 miles across America
  • 30,000 hours community service projects
  • Mr. Kentucky International
  • bible teacher, missionary and Christian speaker coast to coast
  • minister to “single-again” as a pastor and director of ministries for some of the largest churches in the country
  • 35 years in the business world; as an Olympic era entrepreneur, c-level manager of a world renowned golf resort destination and business development officer for several non-profits

Impressive, eh? Well, before you hire me as your next “superstar” men’s conference speaker, you should also know that:

  • introduced to pornography as a child and struggled with that stronghold nearly my whole life
  • betrayed the love and trust of my wife by my thought-life and experienced a horrific death of my marriage
  • incarcerated for three months on false charges; only to find out it was my closest love that was the betrayer
  • have not seen one particular son for nearly 20 years – whom hates me even to this day
  • became penniless, homeless and a beggar of sorts; having lost everything in a short period of time
  • lost my marriage, deaths of a daughter-in-law and twin granddaughters and shamed the Lord’s precious and sweet name by my willful disobedience of His commands

I have often pondered “what could have been” if only I had…. (fill in your own blank) The truth is, it doesn’t matter anymore what “could’ve been but rather, what might still be. My work here in this earth does not cease until I am “home where I belong”. Until then, I have a role to play in edifying the bride of Christ generally and my brothers-in-faith specifically.

I have finally, after four decades, am beginning to understand – as a child – what our Apostle Paul meant when he penned by the Holy Spirit this admonition:

“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead…” ~ Philippians 3:13
